Critical care for adults
The Medical Intensive Care Unit at University Health is a tertiary referral intensive care unit that provides multidisciplinary care with 24-hour physician coverage to adults from throughout Louisiana with critical illnesses. Board-certified intensivists and intensivists-in-training provide state-of-the-art care and conduct research into the mechanisms and treatments for critical illnesses.
Extracorporeal life support
The Extracorporeal Life Support Program at University Health provides advanced life support techniques including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT) and plasma exchange (PEX). The only program of its type in the region, it has provided life-saving support for adults, children and neonates for over 20 years.
